Mark and Regina Belton

We have known Regina and Mark for many years and they had always said that they would get us to create a garden so when I got a call from them to have a look at their new place, I hoped it would be something special. They have a lovely home cut into a slight hill not far from the beach at Diamond Beach.

Regina and Mark use the backyard a lot and wanted to improve the access to their back sheds. Regina had collected some odd tiles at a garage sale some years before and wanted them used somewhere. They also wanted a small lawn area and a spot for a vegie garden.

This two story house looking north over Blackhead beach has been through many rebirths. The multiple additions and alterations however have thankfully only improved what was most likely a two bedroom weekender only 20 years ago. A legacy of one such addition was a less than adequate barbecue area complete with a brick barbie that would have done justice to a central scene in the movie “The Castle”. Just saved from the demolition hammer, it has become quite the centrepiece/curiosity in the entertainment area Katie and Mark needed.

Marks surf board resting in a corner sets the scene nicely while bamboo screening on both walls and roof of the new pergola create enough shade and privacy without closing in what is essentially an outside room. The large step landings were ideal for their daughter Olivia to dance, perform and spread her fairy dust while the daybed at the rear is large enough for a snug two.

Duncan and Mrs Black

This was the second project that Ian Thompson, (a local home builder) had us involved in. Two townhouses for the clients, Mr and Mrs Black. Just across the beach within sniffing distance of the surf, the townhouses were set up to reflect the holiday by the beach that Duncan and his wife were longing for.

Easy care with a plant schedule that toned in with the pastel blues and sea spray, the garden contains Frangipani and Abelia “Variegata Dwarf Form”. Lirriope “Evergreen Giant” and Philodendron “Xanadu” kept the low maintenance requirement at the fore and a soft leaf buffalo lawn on the nature strip only means that no one is tied to the lawn mower.
